 ORANGUTAN

IN ART

Orangutan in Art is a fundraising art event featuring artists from across Australia, aimed at raising awareness about the threats faced by orangutans and their habitats while generating crucial funding for the International Animal Rescue Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Ketapang, Indonesian Borneo and Orangutan Veterinary Aid.

This exhibition will present a collection of artworks created by Australian artists, each paired with an orangutan currently in the centre's care, showcasing the unique personalities and quirks of these remarkable primates as seen through the artists' perspectives

Orangutan numbers and distribution have declined rapidly since the middle of the 20th century, due to human activities. These include illegal hunting, illegal pet trade, unsustainable and often illegal logging, mining, and conversion of forests to agriculture.

The concept was developed by Jessica Warwick, who is deeply passionate about conserving our beloved red-haired primates, the orangutans. After recently volunteering at the International Animal (IAR) Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo, and witnessing the rehabilitation of orangutans first hand, she is actively involved in fundraising and awareness about the plight of endangered orangutans and their rainforest habitats.
